Jaguar launched the XJ6 in 1968, with the Daimler variant released a year later. The first model ran up until 1973, albeit with a few upgrades along the way, including a new three-speed automatic transmission that allowed keen drivers to hold onto the lower ratios for longer, improving acceleration.
